Taberna, NC
Taberna is home to residents of all ages. From grandparents to growing families, "Tabernians" are vibrant, active, movers-and-shakers, who are known for serving their New Bern community, whether they are teachers, artists, retirees, business owners, military personnel...and that is just a short list! Tabernians not only make Taberna a better place, but they also contribute to the entire local community by sharing their gifts, their myriad business knowledge, and their rich and diverse life experiences. As diverse as Taberna residents are, all seem to have one thing in common: they treasure a clean and safe neighborhood in which the homes and properties maintain their value and appeal. Taberna was developed by Weyerhaeuser starting in 1995. Taberna, meaning “place of hospitality” was actually the original name of Bern Switzerland, New Bern’s sister city namesake. Taberna is about 5 miles East of downtown New Bern and about 40 min. away from the beaches. The community, approximately 800 homes, encompasses 1,100-acres, with a park, a nature trail, a canoe livery, and a fishing lake for the residents. Most of the streets have Swiss names, and you will notice New Bern’s affinity for the city’s mascot, the bear!
